Boots by Charlie Dunn
Well, if you’re ever in Austin, Texas
A little run down on your sole
I’m gonna tell you the name of a man to see
I’m gonna tell you right where to go
He’s working in Capitol Saddlery
And he’s sewing in the back of the place
He’s old Charlie Dunn, the little frail one
with the smilin’ leathery face
[Chorus]
Charlie Dunn, he’s the one to see
Charlie done the boots that are on my feet
It makes Charlie real pleased to see me walkin’ with ease
Charlie Dunn, he’s the one to see
Charlie’s been make boots over there
He says, about fifty some-odd years
And once you wear a pair of his hand-made boots
you know you’ll never wear a store-bought pair
Charlie can tell what’s wrong with your feet
Just by feeling them with his hand
And he can take a look at the boots you wear
And know a whole lot about you, man
(Chorus)
[Bridge]
Now, ol’ Buck’s up front, he’s countin’ his gold
Charlie’s in the back patchin’ up the soles
of the people comin’ in, smilin’ at him
They all wonder how’s ol’ Charlie been
And ol’ Buck’s makin’ change, he never sees no one
He never understood the good thing that Charlie done
Yeah, ol’ Charlie never had his name on the sign
He never put a mark in his boots
He just hopes that you can remember him
The same way that he does you
He keeps your measurements in this little book
So you can order more boots later on
Well I’m writin’ down some of Ol’ Charlie’s size
‘Cause I’m makin’ him up this song
(Chorus)
Yeah, ol’ Buck’s makin’ change, he never sees no one
And He never understood the good thing that Charlie done
“Charlie Dunn”

This little boot was, originally, created in the late 1930s by our bootmaker’s grandfather. We had them made, using that same genuine pattern! Notice the small Egyptian ank on the front of the boot? What was the grandfather thinking, using an ank in his design? In any case, it works. We love the technique used in creating the raised inlay horse shoe; not many bootmakers can do this so well.

Alie is wearing the peewees with some denim shorts and they really look perfect! She has worn them with a dress, going out at night, too.

So, the next time you are thinking of wearing some short peewees, think of how cute they are with shorts!

Now, don’t think this trend is for any woman older than 25 (or maybe pushing it to 30 if they look great). It is a very hip look that young women can get away with. We, at Heritage Boot, LOVE to see the women wearing boots in the summer. Again, it is a bit fashion forward - not to be confused with looking like you are trying out for a part in Dukes of Hazzard. You need to have a bit of an attitude to carry this off. Wearing tights works with this look, too, when the weather turns a bit cooler or during the evenings.
Our Skinny Chic boot, which is a 16″ black boot would be great for this look. We will have more 16″ boots this fall, too.
How Not To Wear Cowboy Boots
Don’t go “cowboy themed.” You aren’t trying to wear a costume, you’re trying to incorporate a pair of shoes into an outfit. Leave the checkered tops, fringe and super short Daisy Dukes for other outfits to avoid looking cliche and over-the-top.
Don’t wear them with a loud outfit. Keep the rest of your look simple if you’re going to wear FANCY cowboy boots - No crazy prints, sequins, fringe, swarovsky crystals, embellished jeans, or matchy-matchy. They make a statement on their own, so let them be the focus! Of course, if the boots are a very simple design & one color - feel free to jazz it up a bit.
Remember, Western Boots are a classic look and are ALWAYS in style and have been since the 1950s - Remember James Dean? They are for all four seasons. Jeans, skirts, dresses, or shorts (if you’ve got the legs) all work with cowboy boots. For a really classic look on a woman: Jeans, white men’s shirt and fancy boots - it just works.
Cheers,
Patti & Jerry

That is right! Of course, she is adorable but you, too, can be as fashion forward by wearing cowboy boots with dresses. It really does not matter that it is the middle of summer. It is an iconic, timeless look that has been around for 50+ years.
It is impossible to go dancing in Texas at any of our old-fashioned honky-tonks without cowboy boots - it just isn’t done, my dear. You need the dress or skirt to swirl around you as you two-step along the dance floor. Get yourself to the Broken Spoke (an old-time Austin favorite) on any night of the week (we like Thursday nights when Jesse Dayton’s band plays).
We hope to see you at Heritage Boot, soon. Lots of new styles came in last week, so do not delay.
Cheers,
Patti & Jerry

There’s a place I just know where worn-out boots go
and it’s sort of a heaven for soles,
’cause they’ve faithfully done all was asked of them son,
and remember for whom those boots tolled.
In hard times and storm they kept our feet warm
and with comfort we won’t soon forget,
so it don’t seem quite right at the end of their life
they’d be tossed aside and that’s it.
No, I see a table in some heavenly stable
where a bootmaker angel resides,
just tapping away through the nights and the days
restoring them tattered old hides.
He pauses a bit and then gives ‘em a hit
til the soles and the heels look brand new,
then he redoes the leather and pulls ‘em together
and smiles to himself when he’s through.
I can see them boots now in a showroom somehow
with a heavenly host gathered ’round,
it’s a shop don’t you know where cowboys can go
and a pair of old friends can be found.
thank you, Jennifer June, for this poem I found on your website - www.dimlights.com

Our newest advertisement piece for Indulge Magazine is this. The ad features our Palomino Boot, one of my very favorites. I wear these boots to work, a lot, and since they are so comfortable, I can wear them for 8 hours, straight. The best part about these boots is the attention, compliments, & stares I get - quite exciting. I like the fact that they are 10″ shaft boots - somewhere between a regular height boot & a peewee - it works well in the summer because you show off more leg.
